COVID-19 (Novel Coronavirus)

Avenues Physio-Fitness Health & Safety Strategy- Client Information

We all need to work together to ensure the safety of one another during this time.  Within Alert Level 2, Avenues Physio-Fitness will provide our excellent quality services to those in need while maintain client and staff health and safety to the best extent possible. With support of the Ministry of Health, Physioboard NZ, and ACC we ask and provide the following from our clients and staff:

  1. Screening for COVID-19 will take place on the phone, on our consent form and again upon arrival to the clinic. This will extend to member of your bubble or Whānau.
  • Please reschedule your appointments if you are sick, or are showing symptoms of sickness including the common flu and cold. Symptoms specific to COVID19 include:
  • a cough
  • a high temperature (at least 38°C)
  • shortness of breath
  • sore throat
  • sneezing and runny nose 
  • temporary loss of smell or taste
  • Please refrain from attending your appointments if you:
  • Have been overseas and have not followed correct self-isolation protocols
  • Have been in contact with someone from overseas who hasn’t followed correct self-isolation protocols
  • Have been in contact with someone who has tested positive, or is suspected to be positive of COVID19
  • Have been in contact with someone who is expressing the symptoms aforementioned above.
  • Please be cautious that individuals with reduced or attenuated immunity  are at a greater risk of infection. This includes, but isn’t limited to, the elderly, those with autoimmune diseases, diabetes, and/or cancer. Please check with your GP if you have concerns about your health and immunity.
  • A mask is optional to your appointment. Therefore, if you already own a mask, please bring it to your appointment if you wish.
  • If you wish your physiotherapist to wear a mask during your appointment, please request this and we will happily oblige.
  • Hand hygiene: Wash hands regularly with soap or hand sanitiser. Please ask one of our staff to direct you to the nearest basin or sanitiser station. There will be hand sanitiser on the reception desk, and in every treatment room.
  • If you are coughing or sneezing, please do so into a tissue (dispose of promptly) or into your elbows, then follow above hand hygiene point immediately.
  • Cleaning surface regularly: Avenues Physio-Fitness will utilise the Ministry of Health recommended cleaning solution on the majority of surfaces, including EFTPOS terminals and general environment (chairs, countertops, door handles etc). The cleaning of treatment rooms and common counter-tops and chairs will be completed in-between each patient.
  • Please bring a clean towel or pillow if this makes you feel safer during your treatment session. In addition, Avenues Physio-Fitness will not be using any linen on our beds (for easy cleaning of our plinths) and will only use pillows if required. All pillow-slips will be changed in between any patient use.
  1. PPE is not required for the procedures we undertake at Avenues Physio-Fitness as they are non-aerosol generating and do not involve bodily fluids. However, we do have PPE available and we are happy to wear it if it makes you feel more comfortable in your appointment.
  2. On arrival to your appointment, our doors will be open wide to improve ventilation. Please notify our reception of your arrival.
  3. The waiting room will be restricted to a 4-person maximum. When weather allows we will also leave seating outside for your use.
  4. If you prefer, please call our reception from your car and your physiotherapist will notify you when they are ready for your appointment, limiting your time in reception.
  5. You are entitled to have a support person with you, however, if you can please limit additional visitors to the clinic we would be grateful.
  6. Our physiotherapists will ensure physical distancing of at least 1.5m as much as possible during your appointment.
  7. Our physiotherapists will conduct all of your re-booking while in the treatment room to limit time in our reception area.
  8. The cleaning of fabrics and towels will carry on as usual per ministry’s recommendations by a commercial laundry company: Heavy duty detergent, high temperature wash followed by high heat drying.
