We are ALL living through unprecedented times, amidst the global pandemic Covid-19 and its impact around the world including here in New Zealand. Everyone has been affected. We cannot change the past but must instead focus our energy towards how we react. Taking control and implementing positive action forwards from here. There are likely more turbulent times ahead and it is your mindset that will help you through. 

Stress often carries a negative connotation but in fact it is a natural reaction which can be positive.  Let me introduce EUSTRESS which is linked to positive emotions of excitement, fulfillment, meaning, satisfaction and well-being. Eustress is what motivates us to get out of bed in the morning and can be reflected upon when considering what we have achieved in a day. Work significantly contributes to eustress. In turn eustress contributes towards motivation, work ethic, sense of accomplishment, contentment and a positive mindset.

Ways you can stimulate eustress; EXERCISE, push beyond your comfort zones, challenge yourself, try something new, set goals and strive to achieve them.

Eustress contributes to resilience and is developed through challenging times. Life events which push us to our limits and demand an emotional response. A time for reflection, innovation, positive mindset, facing the hard truth and fighting to come through better than before. Distress drains us into a negative mindset where everything is seen as a threat. Whereas, Eustress is about accepting challenges and setting a plan.

Now is the optimal time to enhance and utilise eustress, a time for growth, development and change. There has been a period of uncertainty and there are challenging times ahead. Don’t let Covid-19 distress you, instead see it as a catalyst for change, an opportunity to utilise your knowledge, skillsets and creative sides to innovate and accelerate forwards. Consider your key skills and mix these with creative genius to optimise a new normal – get thinking. Accept change is coming, turn negatives to positives. Embrace Eustress and get ready to Bounce back out of lock down.
